Ellen Rose Bigcrane is an enrolled CSKT member and is Salish and Pend d’Oreille.  She is the youngest child of Alice Hawk Bigcrane, and a single mother of two children, Dillon and Alyssa, of whom she is very proud.

Ellen Rose attended elementary and middle schools in Ronan, then she transferred to Two Eagle River School to attend high school when it was located in Dixon, MT.  Ellen Rose attended Haskell Indian Jr. College in Lawrence, KS for a year, and a few years at Salish Kootenai College before transferring to Western Montana College to earn her degree in Elementary Education.

Ellen Rose worked as a 3rd grade teacher at North Star Elementary and a 1st grade teacher at Wasatch Elementary in the Salt Lake City School District in Utah a total of 4 years. While working in the Salt Lake City School District, she earned an English as a Second Language Endorsement. She also was a Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grade teacher for Pretty Eagle Catholic Academy for a total of 4 years in St. Xavier, MT, which is in the St. Labre School system on the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations.

Ellen Rose has worked at Salish Kootenai College since 2014, first as an Administrative Assistant for Native American Studies, then an Administrative Assistant for Student Housing, and also as a Student Success Coach with the Department of Academic Success before moving to the Division of Education in 2023.  All seven of Ellen Rose’s siblings have taken classes at SKC, and four of them have worked at the College.
